Genk vs Oostende

The second leg of semi-final in the Belgian Cup with Genk vs. Oostende at the Luminus Arena, Genk.

In the first leg Genk was by far the better team. Genk had many chances with Bailey and Samata to win this game, but it was an individual action from Vandendriessche who gave KVO the lead after some weak defense from Genk. Genk searched for the equalizer, and at the hour it was Malinovskiy who scored for Genk. Afterwards Genk had some more chances to win the match, for example Bailey hitted the crossbar. The Oostende we saw in the first leg didnt show much and we are more used from this team. We agree with the owner, who said afterwards his team "can do much better". In the second leg Oostende will play against a hampered Genk who is without Bailey, Bizot and Buffel (who also didnt play in 1e leg).

Genk comes from a 1-0 defeat at Mechelen. Overall it was a very closed match without many good attemps on goal. In '89 Genk conceded a goal on a free kick. Afterwards Genk searched for the equalizer but Coosemans kept a clean sheet for Mechelen with 2 good saves in the last minutes of the match. Oostende lost 3-0 at Sint-Truiden. Oostende had good ball possesion, but in the 16 they missed a striker. Sint-truiden was the more dangerous team and scored 1-0 and 2-0 from set pieces. KVO coach hopes for a reaction at Genk and said KVO still have to believe they can qualify for the Cup Final.

Possible selection KVO: Dutoit, Chopin, Rozehnal, Godeau, Bossaerts, Milic, Antunes, Tomasevic, Marusic, Capon, Jali, Vandendriessche, Jonckheere, Özkan, Berrier, El Ghanassy, Conte, Canesin, Cyriac, Akpala, Dimata; Out : Proto (knee), Pedersen (foot), Ovono (personal) and Siani (Africa Cup) ; Questionable: Musona (in time back from Africa Cup?)

Possible selection Genk: Brabec, Ryan (ready?), Colley, Walsh, Dewaest, Kumordzi, Susic, Naranjo, Trossard, Wouters, Malinovskyi, Uronen, Schrijvers, Pozuelo, Berge, Heynen, Jackers, Coucke, Castagne, Samatta

Genk can't count on their captain Buffel (personal), Bizot (ankle) and Bailey (transfer). Genk will rent Ryan (ex Club Brugge) from Valencia till end of season in replacement of Bizot (6 weeks out).

In my opinion the bookies make Genk to much favorite in this match and certainly in the category 'To Qualify'. They give too much weight to the 1e leg performance and the out goal Genk made in the first leg. Genk has a good home reputation, but is without some basic players the team is used too: they miss their captain and the experience of Buffel (as seen at Mechelen), they will miss also the individual quality of Bailey to break open a closed game and their first goalkeeper Bizot is out. It remains a question if Ryan will be ready to start for Genk yet. Also, Mechelen showed this weekend how the danger from Pozuelo can be neutralised. In 2017 Oostende showed a bad form with 1 draw and 2 losses in Belgian football, but this don't mean they have no chances at Genk. KVO is a dangerous team with alot of quality, it is also possible Musona will return. @4.2 to qualify has big value imo! (correct score 1-1 @7 is another bet I make on this match)

Pick Oostende to qualify @4.2 found at Marathonbet. good luck!
